A rural district with a multi-year Nellie Mae Educational Foundation grant, PPS engaged New Vista Design for a period of 5 years to work with its elementary, middle and high school programs on the development of its Student-Centered Learning Initiative.

The five-year training effort within Pittsfield Public Schools included:


  • Initial planning and coordination with PPS leadership and Nellie Mae Foundation service providers
  • Introductory and intermediate level PBL Workshops (see sample agendas)
  • Co-creation of web-based PBL planning and assessment tools
  • Monthly meetings with PBL Leadership Team/Teachers
  • Onsite teacher coaching and classroom visits
  • Assistance with planning for student exhibitions
  • Review of curriculum development with elementary, middle and high school principals
